Introducing - the lease!
Hola amigos! Do you live in Northern Baja or Southern California? Many of you have asked us - what can I do to improve my riding? Well, we have put together a new offering for those of you who would like to ride more - we always say, the way to get better at your riding is time in the saddle!
#ranchlife: shoeing
How often do you have to shoe your horses? Well, it depends! But, when we do, thankfully we are able to do all of our shoeing ‘in house’ with our vaqueros who, in addition to being amazing horsemen, are also trained to do many of the essential chores around the ranch - such as shoeing!
Are you ready to feel alive again?
Come ride with us and experience the magic of connection - with yourself, with your horse, and with your dreams. What are you waiting for?
Are you ready for some magic?
There is nothing like the connection that you feel when riding a horse - why do you think we spend all of our time on horseback? If you haven’t been horseback riding with us, or you haven’t been in awhile, now is the time to #escapetheordinary and find the magic!
Super Bull!
Super Bull! Right here in La Mision. Bull riding and so much more - Saturday August 3 at 6pm. Some of your favorite Horses by Jose vaqueros will be bull riding - come support them and have a blast! See you there!
Who’s ready for summer?!
Whether it’s a family vacation, a group of friends, or a couple’s getaway summer is the best time for horseback riding along the beach! See you soon!
#felizcumpleaños Lucero aka ‘Potranco’
#felizcumpleaños Lucero aka ‘Potranco’ ~ 1 year old today!
And, in case you were wondering, ‘Potranco’ is not really a word. A female young horse is a potranca. A male young horse is a potrillo. But this year amongst the new births we had almost all potrancas.
Gracias!
We often get asked - “Do you rescue horses?” The reality is, we have, in fact, ‘rescued’ a number of horses, for various reasons. One horse, Luna, was a legit rescue, from near starvation, where she was basically abandoned. But the rest have been for a variety of less intense reasons - a friend who could no longer afford to keep his mare, so we took her in (Flicka). Or another friend whose mare was having problems walking and needed a change of terrain (Xochitl). In all we have actually taken in over a dozen horses for one reason or another, finding homes for some, and giving a home to the others.
But, when people ask that question my go to answer is, “No, we don’t rescue horses - we rescue young men.”
did you know…?
Did you know...? When you come for a ride, you not only have a great time, but you do good in the world as well! Your ride helps to support not just our horses, but also the goats, dogs, cats, our donkey Taquito, as well as the young men who work at the ranch.

Trabajando con Zarco
People often ask us how long it takes us to train our horses. “These horses are so well trained - how do you do it?”
Well, we begin with patience and consistency. Slowly, poco a poco, getting them used to being handled, having a saddle, wearing a bit, as well as taking them out ‘for a ride’ (with no rider) so that they can begin to learn the terrain, get comfortable with the sights and smells and sounds they will one day encounter with a rider.
